For staff who never open the all-staff email

Most internal communication is written for people at desks. In frontline businesses most of the workforce is somewhere else: on a dock, in a truck, on a ward or on a site. A short video from a leader they recognise, watched on a phone or at a toolbox meeting, reaches people an email does not.

We have made internal video for KBR that has reached more than 20,000 staff, and for Lineage, where the president for Asia Pacific was filmed with her team on the floor of a cold storage facility. We help leaders who are not natural presenters say it plainly.

Two KBR leaders on stage answering questions at a staff event
  • Leaders spoken with beforehand so they talk plainly
  • Filmed where your people work
  • Captioned for phones and noisy sites
  • Short versions for toolbox meetings and lunchroom screens
  • Files delivered to you, for your intranet or learning system

Kinds of internal video we make

The common thread is a message that matters, delivered by someone staff recognise.

  • The chief executive's message, the quarterly results and the plan for the year, filmed so people watch to the end.

  • A restructure, a new system or a new site, explained once and consistently to every shift.

  • Introducing a senior leader to the people who work for them. Lineage's profile of Brooke Miller was filmed among her team.

  • What the business stands for, shown through the people who live it day to day.

  • When something has gone wrong, a direct message from a leader carries more weight than a notice on a board.

  • Town halls, awards and milestones, filmed for the people who could not be in the room.

How an internal video project runs

The same five stages as any Lift project. A single leadership message moves through them much faster than a campaign.

Brief

A call or a visit to work out who the video is for, what it needs to do and where it will be shown.

  • One conversation to brief us
  • A plan and a quote in writing
  • Hard deadlines mapped from day one

Your part: Tell us the problem you are trying to solve.

Plan

We write the script or interview questions, choose who will be on camera with you, and speak with each person before the shoot day. Locations, schedule and site requirements are locked in before anyone films.

  • Script or interview questions
  • A chat with everyone who will be on camera
  • A schedule built around your day

Your part: Approve the plan and help us line up people and places.

Shoot

A small crew sets up quickly and works around the day you already have. We film the interviews and the work itself.

  • Small crew, little disruption
  • Interviews and overlay footage
  • Drone footage where the site allows

Your part: Have one contact on site for the day.

Edit

We cut the main film, add music, graphics and captions, and send it to you for feedback. Your changes are made, the film comes back for sign off, and the shorter social versions follow.

  • A first cut for your feedback
  • Captions, graphics and music included
  • Social cut-downs from the same shoot

Your part: Collect feedback from your team in one go.

Deliver

You receive final files in the formats each platform needs, with caption files, and LMS-ready versions for training video. We can also help you plan where each video goes and when.

  • Files for web, social and screens
  • Caption files included
  • SCORM or LMS versions for training

Your part: Publish, and tell us how it goes.

Joe from KBR on camera

They really do feel like an extension of our team.

They make our people really comfortable on camera, super professional, always organised. With very busy, very senior people you need to be agile and roll things out quickly.

An extension of your communications team

Joe is Head of Corporate Communications at KBR, an engineering business with staff across Australia. His team uses Lift for internal video that has to be organised around very senior, very busy people.

Internal work depends on trust. We film inside your sites and your leadership meetings, and nothing we make for an internal audience appears on our website or social channels without your written approval.

What internal video costs

A single leadership message or profile starts around $6K. A regular program of updates is quoted once we know how often you need them and where they will be filmed.

Frequently asked questions

What people ask us before a internal comms project.

Our leaders are not comfortable on camera. Can you help?

Yes. We speak with them beforehand, work from talking points in their own words, and film in short takes. Most are surprised by how painless it is.

How quickly can you turn an announcement around?

It depends on the message. A single piece to camera is far quicker to film and edit than a campaign, so tell us the date first and we will say what is realistic.

How do staff without a desk watch it?

On their phones, on screens in the lunchroom or the depot, and at toolbox meetings. Every video is captioned so it works with the sound off or over the noise of a site.

Can internal videos be kept private?

Yes. We deliver the files to you for your intranet or learning system. Nothing made for an internal audience appears on our website or social channels without your written approval.

How long should an internal update be?

One to three minutes. If there is more to say, split it into separate short videos by topic.

Can you film leaders and staff at several sites?

Yes. We film across Australia with our Melbourne team or trusted local crew, and plan multi-site shoots to keep travel low.

How much does internal video cost?

A single leadership message or profile starts around $6K.

A change that is coming, a leader staff have never met, or an update that keeps going unread. Send a few lines and we will come back with a plan and a quote.
